Sushma Swaraj asserts at UN: No talks with Pakistan amid terror

The external affairs minister of India, Sushma Swaraj on Saturday described terrorism as the second existential threat to humanity after climate change. She launched one of the most scathing attacks on Pakistan in recent times. She said that Pakistan is an expert not only in spawning grounds for terrorism but also in its attempts to “mask malevolence with verbal duplicity.” She exclaimed that there shall be no talks with Pakistan amid terror.

At the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly, Swaraj said that it had become a habit of Pakistan to throw the “dust of deceit and deception” at India in order to provide a thin cover for its own guilt. She claimed that Pakistan had been using terrorism as an instrument of official policy since its inception. Moreover, it had not receded one bit in the use of this immoral policy of terrorism.

Pakistan’s foreign minister, Shah M Qureshi was scheduled to speak later in the evening. Swaraj had anticipated that allegations of human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir would be thrown at her Qureshi. Swaraj said that there was no greater transgressor of human rights than a terrorist. In the speech, Swaraj described Pakistan as a defender of inhuman behaviour and not of human rights.

She said, “Pakistan glorifies killers. It refuses to see the blood of innocents.”

Swaraj also spoke on recently cancelled dialogue initiative Pakistan. It was not only India’s fault that the talks collapsed. It was because no talks with Pakistan amid terrorism policy and that was directly Pakistan’s fault.

In short, Swaraj completely slammed Pakistan. She gave varied and adequate examples of Pakistan’s duplicity and proof of its support of terrorism like in the case of giving sanctuary to Laden. She made it completely clear that India shall participate in no talks with Pakistan amid terrorism.
